The Zora’s Garden Book Drive is a community-powered literacy initiative inspired by the life and legacy of Zora Neale Hurston. Through donated books and shared storytelling experiences, the book drive places story-rich resources into schools, organizations, and community learning spaces across the country.
Sponsorship support allows us to expand the reach of Zora’s Garden and bring children together for collective reading and storytelling experiences rooted in care, imagination, and joy.
How Sponsorship Works
Throughout the book drive, we use garden-based language to describe how support is given and where impact takes place.
Bookseeds are the books. Each copy of Zora’s Garden is treated as a seed for the imagination.
Garden Beds are the learning spaces that receive the books, including schools, libraries, community organizations, camps, and cultural spaces.
Sponsorship levels represent Bookseed donations that support multiple garden beds across learning spaces nationwide.
Once books arrive at a garden bed, each site is invited to schedule a virtual author visit, creating a shared storytelling experience for children inspired by Zora Neale Hurston.
